From Inception to Global Stage
Founded in 1970 in Basel, Switzerland, by gallerists Ernst Beyeler, Trudl Bruckner, and Balz Hilt, Art Basel was created as a global platform connecting galleries, artists, and collectors. Its U.S. debut in Miami Beach in 2002 transformed the city into an international art destination, showcasing 160 galleries from 23 countries and attracting 30,000 visitors. Over the years, Art Basel Miami Beach has presented both established and emerging artists, including Yayoi Kusama, Jean Dubuffet, Diana Al-Hadid, Maurizio Cattelan, Lonnie Holley, Kim Yun Shin, and Joanna Piotrowska, reflecting the fair’s commitment to diverse and innovative artistic expression.
Art Basel Miami 2025: Highlights
Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 will run from December 5 to 7 in the Miami Beach Convention Center, featuring an exceptional lineup of galleries, artists, and cultural programs, as well as a new feature — the Art Basel Awards — which will debut in 2025. The awards will culminate in Gold Medalist announcements on December 4, in partnership with BOSS.
This year’s edition will host more than 284 premier galleries from 43 countries and territories, across the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, including 41 first-time participants.
The event spans several curatorial sectors:
- Galleries – The core section, showcasing modern and contemporary masters.
- Nova – Dedicated to works created within the past three years.
- Positions – Highlighting solo presentations by emerging artists.
- Survey, Meridians, and Kabinett – Offering large-scale installations, curated projects, and historical insights.
- Conversations – A public program of talks with artists, curators, and collectors.
The program is curated to emphasize “the most urgent artistic currents shaping the American scene,” with particular attention to Latinx, Indigenous, and diasporic perspectives.

Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 will showcase a vibrant mix of established and emerging artists from around the world. Some of the highlights include works by Latin American and Caribbean artists represented by Raquel Arnaud, Ruth Benzacar, OMR, and Galería Sur, alongside debut voices such as El Apartamento, Crisis, Lodos, and Galería Elvira Moreno.
From New York City’s downtown scene, expect exhibitions by leading contemporary figures from Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, David Zwirner, and Pace Gallery, as well as rising talents like David Peter Francis, Candice Madey, Margot Samel, and YveYang.
Internationally, collectors will encounter influential artists presented by galleries including Cardi Gallery, Galerie Karsten Greve, Nanzuka, Edel Assanti, Galerie Thomas Schulte, and Voloshyn Gallery (Kyiv, Miami Beach), the latter introducing the first-ever Ukrainian gallery presence at the fair, offering a dynamic snapshot of the global contemporary art scene.
